Great, Great Great Grandma, Sarah Hitchman

Referred to the time spent transcribing these for Ancestry a couple of years ago.

Ryerson Index has a few notices on this lady, Sarah Burnett. She was 40 years old when she died in 1861. My Sarah was 20 when she was convicted in 1823. Looking more like my Sarah is Matthews daughter. I am happy with that!!

Thank, thank you Wendy. I am just revisiting Sarah Hitchman and Richard/James Burnett and I think you may have stumbled on them.
On 1828 census Richard was assigned to James Bowman in the Hunter region as a stone mason. (They married in the Hunter) The notice in the newspaper in 1861 has Richard as a mason from Balmain, Sydney and Sarah was supposedly in the Hunter or Newcastle.
There is death of a Richard Burnett in 1883, Central Cumberland, i.e Sydney father John mother Elizabeth. On Richards separate thread here, his birth in Yorkshire has father John (convicted with him) mother Elizabeth.
I may now be on the right track thanks to you.

 

I hope it pans out as fact Sue. It's been a long hunt for you -& others.

 

I had actually put them to bed but I went to a talk on the Parramatta Female Factory yesterday and we were asked if we had an ancestor who had passed through it. I was the only one . The historical group are trying desperately to save the factory and asylum from the developers (wanting to put in units for 1200 or more). They are collecting stories and histories of convicts from there. Just need to get as much correct as possible. Thanks.

Seems to be the same deal. I wonder if she was just registered twice? Maybe a call tto registry office or even Library might get the answer on those numbers.

Or perhaps transferred from the original church baptism register to the main church in Sydney..

It would have been really nice if Richard and Sarah were more consistent with their names. I'm sure Sarah could spell. She came from a good family.
