In my Vintage Postcard Group we are trying to identify where this picture is.

No Clues other than what we see
    Scott Clog Maker.
    Milligan Shop.
Either a Barrel or some such sign hanging from building, 3rd right.

Anybody have ideas on where this location is 11822722_10207475553551821_5384102764065044791_n.jpg Thank You.

Neither could I. The only Appleby that I could find was in Cumbria.

    However, I did find this...

William SCOTT, clog-maker of the West Quarter, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly in Alphington (Exeter and Plymouth Gazette 23rd November 1892)

As the newspaper report is under the general heading of happenings in Castle of Exeter, the West Quarter could refer to an area of Exeter itself.

    Just a thought....

If you google West Side Exeter there is this site - "Exeter Memories" which gives a brief history of the area and lists the street and courts too.

I've solved the puzzle. Looked at the 1881 census and searched for the surname Scott with a keyword of clog. That brought up a William Scott and family in Haltwhistle (RG11/5109/19/29). Then I looked for black and white images of Haltwhistle and if you look at http://www.
    francisfrith.com/haltwhistle/haltwhistle-c1900_h344301
you will see the selfsame picture (dated 1900) as in Amie's post :)

Wow AnnB that is some detective work and to think I buy books about mysteries. Thank you so much. I love my old postcards and yes I can still appreciate the picture, it is so much better knowing what they are off.

Top of the class AnnB and thanks again.
