that the William Fuell buried 30 May 1824 in Holy Trinity churchyard Takeley Essex is the William Fuell baptised at that church 21 Nov 1737?

That William Fuell (Fewell) is thought by some to be my ancestor although I'm not 100% sure. The Takeley burial concerned me because I expected him to be buried in Great Waltham where he and wife Ann raised a family, so I know he was in Great Waltham until around 1791.

Had a look in Takeley transcripts and saw that the William Fewel buried 30 May 1824 was stated as aged 9 years therefore born around 1815! o_O :D

In the Takeley burial transcripts William's surname is entered as Jewel, the name Fewell and Fuell has been incorrectly transcribed as Jewel(l) and Fuel(l) in the Takeley baptism, marriage and burial transcripts.

The Find a Grave info I found on Family Search

    Name William Fuell
    Event Type Burial
    Event Date 1824
Event Place Takeley, Uttlesford District, Essex, England
    Photograph Included N
    Birth Date 21 Nov 1737
    Death Date 30 May 1824
    Affiliate Record Identifier 130793808
    Cemetery Holy Trinity Churchyard

    Affiliate's record Identifier: 130793808.

Does anyone know how they would go about coupling the William Fuell/Fewel baptised 21 Nov 1737 at Takeley with the William Fuell buried 30 May 1824 at Takeley?

    Hi, Derek.

Find-a-grave is a user-contributed site. The only surefire "facts" there are the photos that are paired with the memorials... well, come to think of it... I haven't looked up this specific entry - but the info you've quoted says "Photograph included: N." Someone, no doubt, made the same kind of error we see all the time on personal trees and such, that get carelessly copied and repeated.

It is possible to contact the person who "manages" this entry and offer a correction, but there is no guarantee they will update the entry, or how long it would take to filter down to Family Search.

Have you tried contacting the person who submitted the record to Find A Grave? There's a link at the bottom of the page.

Reading her profile, it seems like she might have some source information, but in the absence of a photo of the memorial or other documentary evidence, it's hard to know what weight it might carry.

The people who post information on Findagrave don't always get things right.

I have just found out an hour ago about 'Banastre Tarleton' - Who , yeah that's what I said. Google him, you'll know as much as me :)

On findagrave and familysearch they say he was buried in 'Lancaster'. He wasn't. He died aged 78 in Leintwardine, Herefordshire and is buried in the churchyard there.

I have only just heard of him. Why wasn't I taught this in school  after all I went to Leintwardine school.

I've sent an email to the person who put the info on Find a Grave, included in the email was the URL for the Holy Trinity Church site where she can check the burial transcript for herself.

I came across that Family Search record which led to the F A G site because I was trying to find yet again the family of A William and Hannah Fewell who baptised a son William 5 Feb 1744 at Felsted Essex. After having William baptised they have seemingly disappeared of the face of the earth, I cannot find a marriage for William and Hannah nor any other children.

My ancestor is a William Fuell (Fewell) who married Margaret Twinn at Felsted in 1768, there were two Williams being considered, the one baptised in 1737 at Takeley, the son of Philip Fuell and Ann Judd and William Fewell baptised 1744 at Felsted the son of William and Hannah. Most, if not all, of my fellow Fewell researchers accept that the Takeley William Fuell is our ancestor mainly because a Rev. Mills who many years ago researched this Fewell line said so and also because Philip and Ann named a daughter Millicent plus William and Margaret named a daughter Milly or Melly. I'm still a little undecided because the William son of William and Hannah has along with his parents seemingly disappeared off the face of the earth, I have not been able to find William and Hannah's, marriage nor any other children, so where they went after William was baptised I have no idea.

For me to be confident in which William Fewell married Margaret Twinn I need to see names of William and Hannah's other children assuming there are others, the marriage might give a clue to where they disappeared to.

A few years back Trevor Mills the son of the Rev. Mills (deceased) posted on on a Fewell topic on a forum that his father had the Fewell line as:-

Robert married in April 1581 Suffolk
Giles brn abt 1581 Withersfield, Suffolk marr Elizabeth ?
    Daniel brn abt 1610 Thaxted.
John brn abt 1678 marr Elizabeth Green 1707 Gt Dunmow.
Philip married Ann Judd at Dunmow, parents of William baptised 21 Nov 1737

Trevor was not correct when he stated Philip & Ann married at Dunmow, it was at Takeley 26 Dec 1736, however I have manged to confirm the rest of his info as correct.

Trevor was going to get back to us when he had been able to access his father's computer at his mother's house but we never heard from him again and he didn't respond to messages.

Well I suppose I'll have to wait a year or so then have another crack at William and Hannah Fewell/Fuell. :D
