I know that in England and Wales, the time limit in which to register a birth is 42 days - and this was also the case in 1894. However, does anyone know what the limit was back then for Ireland, please? (I have a grandfather who, we were led to believe, was born in Dublin on 6th February 1894. I have found a possible birth regsitration, but it was not until the April to June quarter.) Thank you,
You may find the answer at irish-genealogy-toolkit.com/Irish-civil-registration.html Jan. A little way down the page it says Late, overseas and military registrations Each volume of the Irish civil registration indexes has a section at the back where late registrations were entered. These entries may have been registered only just outside the six-week registration limit or they may have been several years late. Ann
Thank you Jan and Ann for this topic, I didn't know there was a time limit, well I might have known once but I can't recall knowing.
