Hi David, I am so happy for you that the genius element of this forum have managed to help you knock down your brick wall and that you have been able to work out why your long lost relative appeared to have disappeared! I have written this before, and I will repeat it because I am such a firm believer, albeit that I am a true sceptic at heart! It has always been my belief that our 'dead rellies' who have hidden themselves will suddenly, for no apparent reason, suddenly decide to let you know they are ready to be 'found', just as this one did to you. So many times it has happened to me that 'out of the blue' someone for whom I have searched for years, taps me on the shoulder, and says "OK, I'm ready to let you find me now" and lo and behold, there they are! I am currently in the doldrums myself as none of my 'brick walls' is co-operating at present, but I know that they will one day, so I await with baited breath!
That's lovely of you to say that, thank you Joining TD was certainly one of the best decisions of my life and can't wait to be able to do a bit of giving for a change. Just love the Brisbane City Council site and will be boosting your local economy by $40 soon. By a remarkable coincidence my great grandfather's sister in law Mary was married in Brisbane. Her marriage record, plus the birth record of her son are available to purchase by download and will be on my HDD before long. Mary and her husband were both born here in Aston; how they managed to meet up in Queensland though is a puzzle. Sadly, either they didn't like Queensland or vice versa as 2 years after their son was born he had a sister, born in Aston. Hope your brick walls don't take too long to co-operate. David
My cousin has just responded to the news. Oh, that's puzzling. Do you know why she went to Australia? Well, no, but rather than try to contact "the other side" am tempted to tell her Mary Ann had intended going to Bristol but caught the wrong bus.
Another piece of information sent was the discovery that our g g grandfather had died, in 1854, as a result of, in the words of the Coroner, "developing lung congestion following total immersion in the Birmingham Canal". "How did he come to fall in the canal?". Thanks to the British Library Newspapers Archive, reports of 4 inquests were found in the month in question. Two involved murders, one involved a cavalry officer who managed to fall off his horse and break his neck, while the fourth was a gut wrenching case of a 12 years old lad who fell into some farm machinery Nothing about GGGF, perhaps he was fishing, and hooked a monster pike However will she react to the news that the same GGGF stood trial in Hereford accused of Bestiality? He was found Not Guilty, but . . . .
Hi David, My GG Grandmother is Mary Ann Weatherby! My maiden name is Morley. Harvey Thomas Morley was indeed a Customs officer but is that is not a criminal - Custom Officers are responsible for helping prevent the importation of illegal goods Love to share any other info with you Regards Amanda Beavis (nee Morley)
Hi Amanda, welcome to TD, and I'm over the moon that I can share with you. Mary Ann is my g grandfather Andrew's half-sister, and I'll be sending you a PM outlining what I do know. Sadly this is limited to what has been found on line. I remember G granddad well as he died when I was 9, and I soon learned that if I was to stay in his good books he was not to be asked about his family background. At sometime during his life he became a Quaker and he put a taboo on questions about his mother. In fact her name only came to light from census returns etc. Now for the private message.
