Not sure whether to start a new thread but here goes anyway.
I am after a passenger list for the Duchess of Northumberland that docked in Port Jackson on 3/10/1836. There appears to be quite a few years missing, between 1832 and 1838 in the online passenger list NSW State Government.
I am after Eliza Dunn who arrived, according to NSW State Records on that day and that ship. Maybe someone with a sub can access the list.
This question directly relates to FerrFuzz and her Patrick Collins thread.
Is there a bunch of lists lost or missing?
    Thanks everyone :)

    Hi AM,
I've only just spotted this thread.

I have looked and can't find the Eliza DUNN of whom you speak on the SRNSW online indexes. There is a married woman arriving with her husband in 1851 on this ship and all that the Big A shows is the same list as is available on the SRNSW site. The second reel is missing for this voyage (I always forget which reel is the English record and which is the arrival record). The 1836 voyage is just a list and provides only an age for an Eliza DUNAHAR aka Eliza DUGGAN on that voyage. She was 18. Absolutely no other information is available.

Not much help here I'm afraid.

    Thanks Jane,
She's on the 'Index to Miscellaneous Immigrants' not 'Assisted' or 'Unassisted'
If I think to look again tomorrow she is also named on the list printed in the Sydney Morning Herald for that date with the name of her depositor also listed.

Sorry, can't be the Herald, must be the Gazette. Will check in the morning.

I only looked on the 'Keyname index' Now I've found her. SRNSW indicates the "There is no copy service available for this index" and this voyage is not on the Big A and they have no index named 'Miscellaneous Immigrants'. SRNSW only has Assisted immigration images online. The rest of these records have been filmed but her record is labelled 'COD 394'. Perhaps this is a fiche? I need to look to see what this means. I'll get back to you on that. It will probably mean a trip to Kingswood as I'm not sure that it will be accessible anywhere else.

No idea and I'm not wasting any more time trying to find out. There doesn't appear to be a page of frequently used abbreviations on SRNSW. Suffice to say there does seem to be some kind of copy but it's not online.

Post 77 on the Patrick Collins thread (link on post no 1 here) explains what I had found on the Duchess of Northumberland.

I have read your post in the Patrick Collins thread and i was hoping you could point me in the direction of the list that you found on trove for The Duchess of Northumberland 1836.
I have found a record in the NSW Miscellaneous immigrants for 4 Mannings who traveled on that particular voyage but haven't been able to find any more information including the list on trove that you mentioned.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, darned if I can find it again, however the Duchess of Northumberland on that voyage was strictly a ship with Irish orphans and destitute bounty women emigrants ( I think, could be wrong). Have a look here, rushen.com.au/women, Female Emigration to Australia and you will find a list of women emigrants, their ship and date and place of arrival.
I did see a Mary Manning arriving on that ship but in 1835

Thanks for checking, can you remember any other details of the list that you found i.e. was it printed in a newspaper?
I have checked the Rushen lists and likewise found a Mary on the 1835 voyage, and while i believe Mary is the name i am looking for it does not match the record in the NSW state records. There are also no Mannings listed on the 1936 voyage as you would have seen.
It shows a Mrs Manning, two Richards one aged 4( who i believe is my ggg grandfather) the other has no age ( although i believe it could be a duplicate as i am fairly certain Mrs Manning was married to an Edward Manning) and an Edward age 1. This fits in with the data i have for now.
I have found that there is a diary written by a man on that voyage a Mr Thomas trotter which i will try and read soon.

Don't worry, I'll find it again. Yes it was in a newspaper. I found the info before as I was able to find the depositor of another Irish emigrant and that's the only place I would have come across it. This is most annoying to say the least.
I have free day tomorrow and I will have another go.
I had a look at the return of bounty passengers who came the 1835 voyage and Mary Manning, in fact no Manning at all, on there so 1836 is probably correct as stated on State Records.

Item number 172076 on Jen Willetts Free Settler or Felon says that the Duchess of Northumberland 1836 is on State Records on line Shipping list, well darned if I can find it. Maybe you could contact that site.
The list only starts at 1837 for me :(

Can you get hold of the Government Gazette for dates in October 1836? I'm sure the passenger list should be in there. It has to be somewhere as they were bounty immigrants.

If I could get to State Records to have look I would but it's a long walk with one wing.:) and Archie's Dad won't let me behind the wheel of his new car. Spoil sport.

When you say "it's gorrn" I know how you feel, AM. I've just spent a good deal of the afternoon re-searching for a list of immigrant passengers to Queensland in 1864. I know I found it on TROVE before because I've noted the arrival dates and pencilled some comments about the ship. Also, it started me looking for any of the various schemes which could have funded my couple to their new life. Having failed miserably on that I can now put a big "F" for fail against the original find as well because it sure enough doesn't seem to be there any more.

AND I HAVE ALMOST NEW GLASSES TOO so that can't be the reason!!

Actually I'm starting to get a glimmer of an idea of where it might be but I'm too tired to chase it up tonight. Tomorrow?

(I'll let you get back to the Duchess of Cumberland now and go to bed before this becomes yet another of my wretched "diversions"!!!)
