I guess I used to like crafting - but I don't seem to get anything finished these days! Also used to like gardening too - but the ground seems to get further away as I get older. also tried handcrafting cards too. These days I like walking, Looking at bric-a-brac and reading a good book - and of course family history!
I'm also a Gemini and am constantly juggling things but unfortunately hobbies (except family history) tend to take a back seat at the mo - work keeps getting in the way and if the train company could ever run a train to timetable then I might just have that little bit of spare time - grrrrrrr
I love walking, too - and fortunately several lines of my ancestry chose to live in quite beautiful parts of the country... Yorkshire, Cumbria and the Peak District. It's a good excuse to take off with the ol' rucksack, maps and boots and explore. Can't wait for my health to improve so I can get back out there. I always hoped to find ancestors in the Highlands, too, because I love it up there, but so far no luck. I may have to invent some.
I love to draw. I am obsessive with everything that I do, so I can do 50 drawings in a year and then not do another one for 10 or even 20 years. Gardening is always a joy for me, I need to spend at least an hour every day outside pottering about. I am obsessive about reading as well, when I am in my reading zone I can read a book every couple of days and then not pick up another book for years.
I 'forgot' to mention music (love most types -- classical to punk) and walking ... like BH I want to invent various ancestors in Scotland and Wales (though I do have Welsh 2nd cousins) and dare I admit that I have yet to visit my ancestral origin point in the Lake District People don't seem to understand my tendency to 'holiday' in Wales, by myself -- then again, I don't understand most other people's holidays either
Just catching up after a couple of days away. I seem to be spending a lot of time knitting at the moment, something to do with the impending festive season, trying to make gifts for all my sister's grandchildren. I also like to read, historical or fantasy, usually for a short time at night. I find it hard to get to sleep if I haven't read a few pages.
I'm a Capricorn also but, being a mere man, I struggle to do 2 things at once. I can memorise 3 things on a shopping list though, but if it gets to 4 I need it written down. Then there's looking for things!! -- I have little gremlins in my house who move things out of sight when I look for them then promptly put them back where they were when my wife goes to look. They don't seem to do it with anyone else -- its just me they want to make a fool of All the best.
I'm neither Artistic or Musical. I have an Engineers brain which works in either straight lines or radii. As a kid, as with a lot of kids, I had an interest in 'Train Spotting' and then I grew up, got a job, and got married. Multiple decades later, with an interest in Family History, I also developed an interest in Social History. Not far from me, a Heritage Railway was rebuilding a Station. Social History + Bricklaying = straight lines, so I got involved in that. After some months I then moved into the 'Engineering side' i.e. Carriage & Wagon. Under cover = less exposed to the elements but still encompasses the elements of 'straight lines and radii', albeit on a 'slightly' smaller scale. Something accomplished today, on the 3rd day of trying, was to move 25 tonne of carriage, on jacks, laterally by about 40mm. It had been taken off temporary bogies and, when the replacement bogies where wheeled underneath, one centre casting didn't align with the fitment in the bogie. Hence the need to laterally align. I'll not extrapolate as to what we did but, if there had been a 'Safety' bod present, then they may have had palpitations.
I'm firmly convinced it's a vicious female conspiracy to make us males feel inadequate and dependent on our wives. The wives actually move the objects from where we put them to a spot, where thinking logically as we males do, we would never think to look. I often wonder whether it something mothers pass on to their daughters by word of mouth, or is it a genetic thing.
After years of being in offices, and "head" work, my hobbies are now very practical; mostly garden makeover and house renovation, with a few quizes or scrabble thrown in to keep the old brain ticking over. Only happy when I'm taking something down & rebuilding, or digging it up to move somewhere else. I'm Capricorn, I think that's where the 'practical' side comes from, & always have several jobs in hand at once, so most things take ages to finish. It all keeps me very fit
Are you two 'dumpers' like my OH? Things get dumped on the kitchen bench. Keys here, phone there, hearing aid container over there, sunglasses this way, reading glasses that way. That's why they get moved!!!
Speaking for myself no, I always put things where I should be able to find them. I bet when you move your poor OH's stuff you put them when you're pretty sure he won't think of looking, in fact I'd put money on it.
I know my dear wife does have a good excuse, but. I spent ages trying to find a bottle of washing gel which was far too big to have got overlooked at the checkout. My wife had decided to "help" put things away for me and I never thought to look in the obvious place, the freezer
Well your lovely wife may have an excuse but I don't I am guilty of things like that on the odd occasion.
These days I tend to have more problems with my French Mistress who hates going to our local Asda supermarket. No matter where I park her, she moves to another slot and it takes me ages to find her.
I'm also Capricorn (the goat)! Always struggling to get to the top! I worked full-time until I retired at 60, quite a number of years ago, and my first main hobby was Genealogy. At that time, it was difficult, but improved quickly when records started appearing on the WWW. I spent ages searching records, and eventually joined a website, where I also found a like-mind friend, who I am pleased to say is introduced me here. Having reached a stage where it was difficult to go back further, I decided to try creating a website, and I eventually set up one for Coastguards where I live. I then proceeded to set up another one for a Village that was being pulled down near me, which I really enjoyed doing. After that I joined my county history forum, and have been helping maintain the posts etc. I also make a lot of my own greeting cards, and have written my mother's life story, and am halfway through my sisters. I've also got as far as my wedding on my own life story. No wonder my husband asks if he will be seeing me `today'!! I nearly forgot the important thing.....I joined TopDog which I really enjoy, although I am not able to help too much on the genealogy records side, as I no longer have subscriptions. I still use the free ones though.
The ability of the male of our species for a 'man look' is something passed down from father to son. A 'man look' ensures that any required object takes on an invisibility cloak when sought by male eyes. The maternal genetic line permits the invisibilty cloak to dissipate when female eyes are used to locate any given object, item or document. Sandra
I have a place for everything and everything gets put in its place (by me ). As long as things stay that way I don't have a problem. But things get removed from their proper place and don't get put back (not by me ) and that's where my problem starts. Even when my wife tells me she put it back where it belongs, she invariably didn't quite put it where it belongs and so I can't find it. It only needs to be one shelf higher than it should be for me to get entirely confused . When she finds it and gives it to me she invariable says "It's where I said it was". All the best.
