I am looking at "Rate/Rent Books" and Land Tax records (via Ancestry) for the name 'TUTCHIN' and he appears for the years 1731, 1732,1735 and 1738 in St Anne Soho. I cant find a a specific address although page 53 (2nd line) does indicate the beginning(??) of 'Three Colt Street'. Turning back to page 51 at the top of the page it says 'Stepney' which poses the question 'was there a Stepney Street (or road ? or alley?) in St Anne Soho at that time?' Joe
'Three Colt Street' is the name of a London street which still exists. If you look on Goolge maps you'll see it's very near to St Anne Limehouse and Stepney. Odd name for a street isn't it? If you lived at number 3 your address would be 3, Three Colt St.
Thank you for that .......... I am sill puzzled though because Ancestry has,at the top of the screen, that the detail refers to St Anne's Soho. An Ancestry mistake perhaps? Joe
I've had a look at a couple of the addresses e.g. Gun Lane (now Grenade Street), and the St Anne's parish it really refers to is, as MealyMoo says, St Anne's Limehouse and not the Soho parish. If you click on "St Anne" on the banner above the image you'll see there is a separate section in the drop-down list for "Soho St Anne`" where the records don't start until 1745. Don't worry - you're not the first person to be confused by Ancestry's record labels!!!
