I have been struggling with one of my mother's brother-in-law' family, but that is an aside.

I sent an email to my sister to query if she knew when Frederick PIERCE died. Her reply was that it was in WWII towards D-Day. Out of curiosity I entered his name into CWG and blow me down, there he was!!

The citation included the names of his parents so it was the correct person.

CWG gives the option of downloading a certificate so that has now been printed, laminated and in my family story book.

I had mistakenly thought that CWG only contained records for Commonwealth countries excluding the UK - I now know better

Yes, it is a terrific resource - and there are also some civilian deaths recorded as well as military ones. :)

Was he the one in the The Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders ?

If his Service Number was 2934875 and he was in 5th regiment of the above....

FMP have the casualty list with his name on it. It shows that he was an A/Cpl (Acting Corporal) this isn't shown on the CWGC site.

Yes, that is him. Thanks for the tip to visit the FMP record, I'll pop over to that site shortly.
