I have spent time looking at the censuses and have found that there are 2 William Clymo's'. One lot live in Penponds and the other in Barriper. There are 2 Clymo families with William as a son and it is a problem trying to sort one from the other before 1871! My William was 1839 and it seems the other was 1829 and he stayed unmarried.
1912 Calumet, Michigan Directory: Nicholas Clymo, shift captain, Quincy Mining Co, res 248 Mesnard. Oh! Here's on obituary: Code: http://www.mfhn.com/houghton/rosscoll/rossobits/rossobits-c.txt Michigan Family History Network - part of USGenWeb
That early would be Castle Garden. I had a try but they seem to be having a server/host problem at the moment.
No longer available I think Sue, that's why I didn't mention it. I haven't been able to access it for quite a while.
Cornwall OPC under Emigration has a William Clymo.... 1884 Captain William Clymo miner about 45. Report of death in the Salt Lake City Tribune age 45...... would have him born c1839. No other details. Perhaps he meandered over to Utah.
http://www.opc-cornwall.org/Resc/obits/clymo_william.htm Not sure if he is the William you are after.
Just found a really old rootsweb enquiry (1999). Nicholas, son of Nicholas and Jenifer Cowling, born 1843, emigrated to Franklin County, Michigan in 1860. He married Mary Jenkyn/Jenkin and she emigrated later. It doesn't say that they married before or after. It may or may not help you.
Births to Cornish Parents extracted from Michigan Birth records 1867-1902 8/10/1874 (could be 10/8/1874) Franklyn, Houghton. Michigan. Nicholas Clymo father Nicholas a miner born Cornwall and Mary.
I have just tried Castle Garden and the only Clymo to appear is Henry Clymo age 28 who arrived 14 September 1885 from England.
If I am on the right track, that Nicholas will be a brother to my William. Cornwall OPC has Nicholas marrying 9th April 1864 and his father is Nicholas a mine agent. That will tie in with my William marrying in 1861 and his father also a mine agent. The residence of both men was Barriper, which is in the Penponds area.
I have found Nicholas and Jenifer Clemo in Cornwall in 1891 aged 70 and 74 the name is Clemo this time
What other emigration sites are there? Nicholas was too early for Ellis Island and Henry was the only Clymo on Castle Garden.
There are 2 families with the same name and it is difficult trying to find who is related. Most likely they are related somewhere down the line.
Redruth, Cornwall Surname Registry. connorsgenealogy.com has the surnames of emigrated Cornish and where they immigrated to. Clymo, Clemo etc went to Australia 1869 and USA 1860. There is a contact name for the Clymo clan. A number of times today I have come across a Nicholas Clymo in South Australia and found again in Hill End NSW. I am wondering whether he came here first and then went to USA.
I'm as confused as the next person with all these Nicholas's, so I'll throw this into the mix. West Britain and Cornwall Advertiser 19th August 1897 ln Michigan, N.A., recently, by a bicycle accident, the eldest son of Mr. Nicholas Clemo, of Barripper, Camborne, grandson of the late Capt. Nicholas Clemo, of Camborne, aged 21. Frustrating that he is nameless, and it probably won't help in the slightest.
