A few weeks ago when my friend and I were walking to East London Cemetery we stopped to take pictures of a dilapidated Chapel on Upper Road, Plaistow (my friend did the research and discovered it was a Salvation Army chapel which closed in the 1960s); anyway, a gentleman stopped and started talking about disused buildings and what a shame, and told us of a disused building by a WW1 memorial near Plaistow Park.

    Some building details:

(sorry I know I started this as a WW1 memorial thread, but I have a penchant for old transport )

I don't remember the trams in West Ham (although my Dad used to tell me tales of how he and his friends would jump on and off them when he was a child ) but I do remember the trolley buses.

There is a very short clip on the Pathe News website of the 'coming of age' of the West Ham trams britishpathe.com/video/trams-birthday/query/west

That building looks so like East Ham Town Hall - I presume that's still there in all its red brick glory?

Gosh I hope so, I must admit to only rarely going to the environs of High Street North at the top of Plashet Grove, though I've wandered the whole length of the High Street once or twice

Hah, just googled it to remind myself, and yes it is still there, saw it in January:)

Well, you really couldn't miss it could you  I should have Googled........

To think, when I was a kid, it was deemed a treat to take the 'bus to East Ham and walk the length of the High Street (I can remember the Green Shield Stamp showroom ) and we would end up at my Great Aunt's in Burgess Road (after another short 'bus ride.) I haven't thought about that for years!
