I'm looking for the army records of Harold Hinett during WW2. He was born 01/01/1917 in Bradford,Manchester died 1986/87. He was a cook in the army based in Welbeck, Nottinghamshire. Thank you
Have a look at this TNA Research guide: Code: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/help-with-your-research/research-guides/second-world-war/ You can apply for a copy from the Veterans Agency.
I think, but am not 100% sure, that his records will still be with the MOD. Someone will be along to either confirm or dispel that assumption.
I think you're right, Chimp. Next of kin may obtain the records free of charge. https://www.gov. uk/get-copy-military-service-records/overview
Thanks everyone for your replies. I'm advised that someone has a photograph of him in uniform which should help.
