Hello, I am trying to follow up on a story about one of my ancestors, Christopher Warwick; a reward of £20 was offered in February 1829, for his apprehension, in newspapers in the Leeds area for the felony of attempting to avoid paying Stamp Duty, He absconded, but I don't know where from, on October 11th 1828. He was living in the Ripon area at this time. I have no idea if he was ever found, and punished, but I do know that he changed careers by the time I found him again in 1851 in Durham. If anyone has any ideas I would be most grateful. Thank you.
Not sure how helpful here Layra, I did see several mentions of the above mis-use of a Stamp of indentureship. I'm putting in all I've found apart from much later items than supposed death of John in 1860..see what you think. 1841 Ripon-Bondgate Green. It may explain where Christopher snr was in 1841, IF he had a brother William & a Father John. Several other 'Warwick' baptisms come up with a Father John in Yarm. Perhaps shoemaking wasn't always viable, I have seen same in other families.

Thank you for that, I believe you have the right Christopher, son of John brother to William, father of Christopher bn 1828. Members of the family did go into the Inn business right up to the 1960's in one way or another. There are so many places to search and I seem to uncover more daily! Once more, thank you.
