According to Canadian census David Potter was born in 1794. On Scotlands people I found one David Potter born at that time. Can someone with a sub please take a look-see and let me know what it says? Thanks. I am also trying to find who Catherine his wife was, born same year . I don't see a marriage listed, they may have married in Canada. I haven't checked immigration and ship's lists yet. Thank you, Ann! Now to find when he came to Canada. Immigration says 1871, but that's the year they gave to everyone that was already here by 1867 ( when Canada was formed as a country ) on the 1871 census . I know he was here prior to 1851.
Ancestry has the Canadian 1851 census with both David & Catherine on it doesn't give any info except he is a farmer also 1861 also no info of use on the census they are still there in 1881 long lived family!
Yes, unfortunately I still can't find the marriage, but I believe his wife to be Catherine Connel from one of the son's marriage registration. The census says she is from Scotland, but can't find a birth for her there.
Catherine was about 98 when she died! I believe these are my mil's ancestors..makes sense..she lived to be 90. The whole family seemed to live to a ripe age.
don't know if this is your David if so nearer to when he emigrated The farm south of Galt was at one time part of the land owned by John Telfer. Its deed shows that in 1847 it was purchased by David Potter.

Findagrave has a lovely memorial to David Morrison Potter. Also says he was born on Nov 20 1825, Cambridge, Washington County New York. Son of David Potter and Catherine Connel. Died 1909 Elora Ontario. Married Elizabeth Buchanan in 1853. So perhaps have a look in USA for his birth and their arrival.
Where did you find this, Sandiep? We know the Telfer farm! As for son David, his marriage is what I really need to prove family connection. A David Potter of that age married Eliza Weese in the 1850's but we cannot find that marriage anywhere. That David and Eliza are my hubby's gr. grandparents. I know now it is Weese as we got our DNA results and hubby shares with several others of Weese descent, but I have only heard back from one that I contacted and her Weese family all went to Michigan. There are several Elizas on various trees.

Yes I realise, but this David is the son of David Potter and Catherine Connell. Born in USA. So David Potter and Catherine Connel must be somewhere in the USA if that's where their son was born.
I checked them out and that rules out today's work. ! thanks Sue... Need to go back to just finding my David and Eliza"s marriage. Darn...why does hubby's family have to be so difficult?
