My great uncle was killed in France in WW1 I need help to decipher the place.

Unfortunately not. If you go to the CWGC site and locate which cemetery he is interred in that will give you a rough idea of location. Unless he is one of those without a known grave of course.
 
No known grave I'm afraid. He's commemorated on the LOOS MEMORIAL, Pas de Calais, France.
 
The CWGC records the following about where those immortalised on the memorial were killed. It narrows it down but nothing precise. The Loos Memorial commemorates over 20,000 officers and men who have no known grave, who fell in the area from the River Lys to the old southern boundary of the First Army, east and west of Grenay
 
That's so sad, Chimp, isn't it? The tragedy must have been heartbreaking for his close family, and their sadness compounded by not knowing where he was buried.
