I've been trying to discover whether a man I saw listed on Ancestry is my relative. He was born Bermondsey 1881 -as was my laddie. [1881 J Quarter in ST OLAVE SOUTHWARK Volume 01D Page 282] mine. Deserted at Woking 22 Jan. 1899 also 3 Apr, 1899 from 2nd E.Surrey .Reg't. Regimental Number: 5754 1915 said to have been killed in action France & Flanders 27 Feb. Regimental Number: 5754 ..... I'd not found my chap after 1891 with any certainty. Cannot find away to be sure if the above is my chap or not. Am just a bit unsure about 7 day free trial of Fold3 incase I forget to dis-connect when time is up. I have no talent what ever for searching TNA even had another go a few minutes back. Can anyone suggest any other way to sort this out please? FMP have no news at all. ps. Unable to correct 'unknown in heading.
There is an entry on the CMGC for a Walter Martin 5754 age 35 - East Surry Reg. A company, first batallion s/o of the late William Martin of Rotherhithe husband of Ada Martin of 52 Rotherhithe Street, Rotherhithe
Brilliant, thank you MollyMay. I had followed that couple until I saw their marriage which named father as William. Wrong Laddie -- thank you.
I now have an email saying welcome to Fold3....? didn't finish the joining thingy but must have been enough.
Even if you only get as far as giving a name and email, you are registered. If you didn't give them any payment info... unless they can get it from A.......? If in doubt, check your account info in a day or two. It is helpful to be registered on the pay sites. Then, when they have windows of free access, you will get a notice and access to those select records.
Thanks Barb, I realised as soon as I keyed that post that my account email would have rung their bells. Lovely to be so appreciated I guess, at least it's a foot [ or wallet] in the door.
May get out of this quite smartly- having discovered that if you key in a name you then need a premium membership to view. I again hit 'start a free trial now' & up came my email addy or half of it with different last half. So may be there are two of us out there
To the confusion of your/their descendants in a hundred years or so. Do you reckon all of our screen names and email addy's will follow us beyond the grave?
