Frances Nellie Wright marries Benjamin Worboys at St Johns,Holloway,London 7th June 1888 aged 26. She gives her fathers name as George Webster Wright, a farmer. Beyond this I can't find her in the 1871 or 1881 census nor a definite birth. For some reason I have a birth of 17 feb 1862 Chatteris, Cambridgeshire but where this came fre
om I don't know and it doesn't tie in with any birth then that I can see.

1911 Census has her birth as Charteris, Camb. age 49
1939 has her birthdate as 17 Feb.
Not found her birth by those names
Father given as George Webster Wright- only found a birth 1840, Lincoln. not found positive marriage.

Looks like the above died the following year 1841 death on FS.
FS also has the christening of a ........Webster Wright (unreadable first name) at Ely Cambridgeshire 3 March 1844. Wesleyan Methodist. Father George Wright mother Sarah. Would make him 18 when Frances was born, if its him.

A possibility perhaps?

Following on from John Webster Wright:-
1851 John can be found with his parents George and Sarah HO107/1765/403/10 - Chatteris
By 1861 Sarah is a widow but has 3 more children including a Frances RG09/977/32/19 - Somersham, St Ives
There is a death reg for George Wright age 43 Dec. qtr St Ives 3b 150
Frances b 1858 (could this be your Frances who shaved a few years off of her age seeing Benjamin was younger than her?)
The birth reg of John Webster Wright gives a mmn of Leadon
The birth reg of Frances (no Nellie) gives a mmn of Leading (Mar qtr St Ives 3b 268)
George Wright married Sarah Leedon Mar qtr 1843 Ely 14-85

1871 Frances is possibly a servant to the Mann family in Somersham RG10/1529/8/7
1881 in Romford a parlour maid to the Hamilton Family RG10/1750/39/18
Frances Wright b1858 Somersham

My thought being - this Frances would not have known her father, and as her brother was John Webster, she could have assumed Webster was her father's name too.

Given that in the 1901 census of Attercliffe, Yorkshire, Frances WORBOYS gives her place of birth as Somersham, the 1861 census of Somersham (RG9/977, folio 32, pages 19/20) shows Sarah WRIGHT, aged 41, widow, Sempstress, born Old Hurst, Hunts, living at Rectory Lane with children John W, Elizabeth, George & Frances. Son John W's birthplace is shown as Sutton, Cambridgeshire, which ties in with the marriage at Sutton doesn't it. Elizabeth & George's birthplace is Chatteris and Frances is shown as born Somersham. 1851 census of Chatteris shows George (born Godmanchester), Sarah (born Old Hurst) & son John (born Sutton) living at Burn's Fields. All of this confirms what MollyMay has found for you and it looks as if Frances and her parents were born in Huntingdonshire. St Ives reg district covers the parish of Somersham which again ties in with the birth registration for Frances in 1858 that MollyMay found for you.

Ok have looked at all the evidence and it does seem to all tie in except for George Wright,( the father of Frances,) b.1821 Godmanchester can find no birth in 1821 but have another George Wright in 1817 Godmanchester with Cristening 31 Aug 1817 Godmanchester, Parents John Wright & Sarah and one born 1818 Godmanchester, Christening 5 Apr 1818 Godmanchester. Parents Thomas & Jane. This from Family Search

What is interesting is that on the FreeReg transcription for George & Sarah's marriage there is no name given for George's father although Sarah's father is shown as Samuel LEEDEN, Labourer. I wonder if that indicates that George was illegitimate?? There is a George WRIGHT, born c1820, living in Chatteris in the 1841 census (HO107/80/4, folio 11, page 17) who is not born in the county - perhaps your George. You may be able to rule out the George son of John & Sarah WRIGHT as he is living with his parents in the 1841 census of Godmanchester and his occupation is shown as a Carpenter. George's age on the 1851 census is shown as 36 giving him a birthdate of c1815, so we should perhaps be looking for his baptism a bit earlier. There are also a couple of unattached female WRIGHTs in the 1841 census of Godmanchester, namely a Jane & a Mary, who could perhaps be worth further investigation just in case George does turn out to be illegitimate.
