Hi everyone,

I have been researching my family tree on and off for several years but there are still a few areas where I hit brick walls and (being semi-retired) one cannot afford to join many sites on-line.

Recently a friend (and fellow member on here) pointed me towards this site so I'm hoping that perhaps (with a little help) I can start making logical progress again as, when direct leads became hard to find, my tree spread out to "mother-in-law of nephew of husband of aunt of wife of 2nd great-uncle" which is, I think, a little obscure to put it mildly ! LOL

Best wishes,

Phil

Hello Phil and welcome to Top Dog - and that relationship sounds pretty normal to me :D

Welcome to Top Dog Phil C|:-) Start posting those queries, I'm not sure how long I can hold this mob back  they're sure to go off piste anytime soon

C|:-) Welcome Phil - I think everyone ends up looking at relatives of relatives (and why are they easier to find, and more interesting than your own direct line:D?)

Hi all, many thanks for the welcomes.
I came of the opinion that "mother-in-law of nephew of husband of aunt of wife of 2nd great-uncle" was turning my tree into a triffid and a little frustrating when I couldn't even find the marriage (or even a confirmed wife) of my 2nd great grandfather.
I am trying to concentrate on "Bailey" & "Churcher" (from London & Worthing respectively) plus "Wright" & "Ashton" (from the Warrington area) and have had considerable success from time to time (not least of which being the CWGC altering their records as a result).
However, Ancestry keeps throwing up credible hints and I get side-tracked (especially if someone has an unusual name and puts me "on a roll").

OK, posted as "John Bailey 1820-1890" in what I hope is the correct place ? (my apologies to the mods if I have given you unnecessary work).

Welcome to the forum, Phil!

The members like nothing more than a conundrum or two to get their teeth into and I am sure that results to your other post will trundle along soon.

Enjoy! :D

Welcome aboard Phil. Don't worry about going off piste, (more than) a few of us have done the same on the odd occasion, and lived to tell the tale.

I cannot believe the responses I have had to my query (and so quickly too).

I only hope that at some time I can be equally helpful and repay the favour .... Headstone photographs in Dorset perhaps ?
