What does it say? Tun House, Mun House, Fun House ... is that even an H? someplace in Hilfield, Dorset. I've tried a modern Ordnance Survey but couldn't see it, if it's there ... the places enumerated before this were Three Gates Farm (which I can find) and Three Gates Rd. Assuming a logical progression through the parish between Three Gates Farm and Pond Farm I can find Mounds, Bide's Gorse, Stone's Farm, Hilfield Manor none of which seems to fit ... I have looked at all previous census returns but most enumerators did not bother with precise placenames, and then only specific important ones ...

It's not IRON house is it?

go back one page & check lettering for 'Good Hope INN', then one page past the above to see letter 'I' in Irvine, 'F' in 'Church FARM Cottage' & other similar letters on the pages show J F & S. Not the same.

I agree - looks like Iron House to me as well.

THANK YOU! 8(:-) I think somewhere in my brain those words were struggling to get out. Sorry, my Tun, Mun , Fun was a joke -- not serious contenders. I knew it was none of those letters. Kept thinking it was something + R but "Iron" never quite emerged, now it seems only too obvious.
