Missing Comedian

West Middlesex Gazette 10th April 1937
Mrs Moore of 1 Grove-road Ealing, appeared at Ealing Police Court on Saturday, summoned by Eleanor Claridge of 6, Grove-road, Ealing, for assault on March 19. Mrs Moore pleaded guilty, and without evidence being offered, agreed to be bound over for six months.

Hmmm, an Eleanor Jane Willmott married a Charles Claridge in 1912, Brentford - they are together on the Electoral Registers at 6 Grove Road, Ealing in 1937. George Edward and Daisy Martha Emma Moore are at No. 1

I was going to say, so maybe not Jan's Eleanor Jane, but I think now it is. The 1921 census has the following in the same household:
Charles Claridge b. 1862 Banbury, Oxford
Eleanor Jane Claridge b. 1867, Kew
George Alfred Willmott b. 1890 Kew
Lily May Willmott b. 1890 Holborn, London

A George A Willmott and a Lily M Bell are both listed on the marriage index - Sep Q. 1919.

So now it looks like Eleanor Jane became a Willmott sometime between 1911 and 1912

FreeBMD March Qtr 1912 Brentford - two of the people listed are Charles Claridge and Eleanor J. Willmott....... :nailbiting:

oops, sorry, I see Jellylegs has already mentioned this

Mrs Claridge, of 6, Grove-road, Ealing, has just received from the Director of Graves Registration and Inquiries a photograph of the grave of her eldest son, Pte. C. A. Claridge. Middx. R., who was killed in action in France, June, 1916.

On Find a Grave, there is a photo of the grave and this annotation has been added
'Husband of Ada. L. Mansfield (formerly Claridge), of 2, Glebeland Gardens, Shepperton, Middlesex. He Married Ada in June 1916, just days before his death. Charles was a serving soldier in 1911'
The Soldiers Who Died in the Great War states that his full name was Charles Alexander Claridge and he died of wounds on the 27th June 1916.

There is a birth registration for a Charles Alexander Claridge Dec. Qtr. 1890 in Fulham MMN Wells.

Charles Claridge married Annie Martha Wells March Qtr 1883 in Brentford.

Annie Martha Claridge's death was registered March Qtr 1905 in Brentford aged 42.

Soooo, the above Charles Alexander Claridge wasn't Eleanor's 'son' but her step-son. Phew, when I found that newspaper article, I thought we were following the wrong Eleanor :D

Oh wow! :D

I am currently in the local Library (family history help desk ;)) but will have a proper read when I get home.

Thank you!

I just hope no-one comes along looking for a Comedian :nailbiting::D

Carry on the good work Jan :reading:

How about this?

Sept qtr 1894 3a 236 - one Frederick George Willmott married Eileen Jennie:rolleyes: Brandon in Brentford

1901 census 104 Dalling Rd. Fulham RG13/47/151/7
Fred Willmot (sic) b1869 Ireland
wife Jane b1867 Kew Surrey
son George b1890 Kew Surrey

I cannot find an Eileen Jennie Brandon prior to the marriage, nor an Eileen Willmott after and odd how a Fred Willmot[t] is married to a Jane from Kew with a son George also born Kew:nailbiting:

Oh well found Sue - what on earth is Eleanor Jane doing to her husbands :nailbiting:

Going back to the fact that in 1911 she is recorded as Eleanor Jane Danes with son George Alfred Danes at 26 Glenfield Terrace, West Ealing, this from the Ealing Gazette 20th April 1912
Charles Claridge (50), stone mason, of 26, Glenfield-terrace, West Ealing, was charged with drunkenness. Constable 24XR gave evidence of finding the prisoner drunk and arguing with his wife, in Leighton-road, West Ealing.—A fine of 7s. 6d. was imposed.

Perhaps she drove them all to drink.....

Thank you all for the hard work that you have put in on tracing this rather colourful person! :D

I have lifted the basic information and (hopefully) put it into some sort of order. If you have nothing better to do, please plough your way through the following and see if it makes sense.

Many thanks. :)

(This fits with a March Q 1866 registration)

There is a death registration of an Eleanor J CLARIDGE in the September Q of 1946 in Brentford RD, which covers Ealing.

Phew!
