The Facebook thingy at the bottom

Please explain!

I have just spotted that one of my threads (see here) has been liked twice by someone and I presume sent to Facebook.

There is no way to know who did it but I am hoping that the message is going out to all those trees with the plethora of various information on the one couple.

I just went looking for "us" on Facebook, Jane, and we were obviously hiding. Couldn't find a trace.

Was going to look to see what might be happening with the likes, but no luck. Sorry.

If the Facebook "like" icon is clicked by anyone, it should go through to their Facebook page. However, if they click it and do not have a Facebook account, I believe that a page will pop up asking if they want to register with Facebook.

It is an additional way of publicising the forum on social media websites - and spreading the word about particular queries. ;)

Well I had a look and I'm lost. Probably don't know where to look!! I have to say, though, that I'm no FB expert, use it mainly to keep up with what's going in with the younger friends and members of the family.

Doug, you just may have been right again (and why am I not surprised you ask?). ;)

Well, each morning, I pick a thread and add it to my own Facebook page, but leave it 'open' so that anyone can read it rather than making it just available to friends and family. However, I do not do that through the icon clicking - I paste the url of the thread. (I also do this on Twitter ;) )

I must admit that I do not fully understand what Facebook does but, the next time that the techie does anything to Top Dog, I will ask him to check that the links to Facebook are still operative. :)

I was going to check your FB page and see if I could follow through your process, but found you ain't a daft bat there.

Never mind, we'll see what happens when the techie is consulted.

Sometimes when I haven't been religiously checking TD I see the posts on F Book & chime in. I see stuff I otherwise may have missed., tho' I do try to check recent posts too.
My mind has been elsewhere these past few weeks, from tomorrow I'll be expected to be mind whole again, & firing on all six.

Hmmm might you be one of the millions who don't check all things new & fine print & maybe get into problematical situations later. It is 19cms or 7" from the full stop after 'later' in my post.
or 1+1/2" 4 cms under the square of my avatar, see the green 'share this page'??

Thankyou everyone. It has all become clear. I will begin to do this too. It does appear that the John DAVIS/Mary BROWN dilemma may be being considered by others outside the forum which can only be a good thing in more ways than one (because even if the Daft Bat shared it someone else did too - and now I will)!

OK, melurv, elucidate. How do you see the posts on Facebook? I haven't the foggiest about how to do that.

I know what you mean about mind elsewhere, mine still is and I have a week or so to go before I get a chance to undo the Humpty Dumpty bit.

Facebook was clearly having some king of 'hissie fit' as I shared it but now can't see it on my wall. It's somewhere out there in the ether!

It would appear that someone who is a 'friend' to me on FB has connections to someone who posts links to TopDog. I sometimes see lot's of posts from people I've never heard of who are friends of a friend who is a friend to someone.
Mostly concentrating on Family posts lately, as the news feed gets cluttered with pretty poems & inspirational sayings thus blocking my views of friends posts.

I couldn't agree more, who wants to know what someone is eating or who they are with and where they are every minute of the day. I am on there just so I can see photos of my grandchildren.

I'm friends with things and few people. Museums, art galleries, archives and interest groups ('Lost Newcastle' is my current favourite) don't tell you what they've eaten and that's refreshing.

Further to posting a 'Top Dog' thread on Fb ... I couldn't see it but a friend has liked it so that is good to know. So yes, Jan, The Facebook link is still operative.
